Los Barrancos de LA ZAGALETA ^® Golf Course

The second course at La Zagaleta called "Los Barrancos" is probably one of the most challenging sites to be provided to a golf course architect where the aim is to create a playable course which also somehow blends with the landscape.

When reading the statistics of the course development, it can be seen why this project is simply outstanding;

2 million cube of soil and rock moved
a road tunnel formed to reach the new clubhouse which runs underneath the practice area
significant cut and fill earthworks reaching depths in places of 30m plus
0.75 kilometres of shaped rock wall 6m height above ground with four metre deep foundations.

It is fair to say that this project has been extremely challenging embarking on the golf course shaping and landscape design. What has emerged is a stunning new course which our members can enjoy for the future.

This course is a must to see and play if you are lucky enough to be invited. Many of the holes offer the ultimate challenge with long carries over protected ravines to large, undulating but fair greens where great care has been taken to provide generous green surroundings.

The varied challenges from the tees provide the player with many options illustrating the 'risk and reward design' strategy perfectly.

Bunkering is not stereotypical resort style as the terrain lends itself in many ways to a more traditional bunker form and these too have been strategically placed.

Shaping also has been carefully conceived so as to marry the course within its mountainous backdrop yet providing rolling fairways and a playable and maintainable golf.
