Owanto was born in Paris in 1953 to a French father and Gabonese mother. The artist grew up in Gabon spending her formative years there and since the age of 20 has lived mainly in Europe. An artist for more than 30 years, her inspiration derives from her profound experiences of, and philosophical questions about, Love and Life. Owanto has exhibited on both sides of the Atlantic and her works can be found in private and public collections in Europe, Asia and the American Continent. Her last major solo exhibition was the 53. International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale 2009, where she was honoured to represent the Republic of Gabon in its own National Pavilion.
