Keynote: The world has never needed so much connectivity, interactivity and instant infrastructure – view on investing in space
President of EBAN
“If we don’t invest in the next generation, we’ll have a lost generation.”
The sixth edition of Foro Zagaleta, organised by Zagaleta, brought together a large group of Business Angels at its exclusive residential estate in Benahavís (Malaga), which included the highly respected President of EBAN (European Business Angels Network), Candace Johnson, a successful 66 year old entrepreneur and one of the founders of SES/Astra in the 1980s introduced the idea of Smart Investments, stating that “if we don’t invest in the next generation, we’ll have a lost generation”, and added that “being a Business Angel is the best way to bring about positive change in the world”. Johnson is one of Europe’s 50 most influential women and during the forum in Marbella spoke very highly of the technical milestones achieved in Europe and encouraged new generations to continue innovating: “you’ve got to think big, in the 1980s my space project went ahead thanks to an investor who firmly believed in the idea that many others laughed at”.
Johnson’s professional career spans more than 40 years, and she’s currently devoting her time to investments through business angels and investment funds. “I’m an entrepreneur; I don’t see myself as a businesswoman or an investor. At the end of the day, I like that I’ve moved mountains. Many people don’t like to be first and prefer to be second. I’ve always like being first in the market,” says Johnson.
