Keynote: The African Angel investing opportunity – The time to invest in Africa is now

Tomi Davies

President of the African Business Angel Network (ABAN)

Now is the time to invest in Africa

“Africa has evolved from being a continent that was once seen as a lost cause to a vibrant land of opportunities, especially for investment, entrepreneurship and Startups”, said Tomi Davis, President of the African Business Angels Network (ABAN) during his presentation at Foro Zagaleta 2018 in Marbella (Malaga).

While many countries today face the dilemma of an ageing population, the majority of the 1.2 billion Africans living on the continent are young, ambitious and enterprising. Entrepreneurs are the critical drivers of innovation and development, and there’s a growing consensus that Africa’s future growth will depend on the success of these entrepreneurs who can create scalable companies. Fortunately, the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Africa, and there’s an increasing number of new businesses in ICT, agribusiness, e-commerce, fintech, digital technology, e-health and renewable energy. These young entrepreneurs are the face and future of a continent where over 50% of the population is under 20.

“Now, today, 2018, is the time to invest in Africa. Building Africa is a team effort, and Business Angels are moving towards the heart of the continent’s future. Being a Business Angel is about giving back to society, making the most of your experience, earning money and of course, having fun along the way”. These were just some of the words Davies left with us during his presentation at Zagaleta last month.
